Your Initial Visit

What to Expect

As internists, we are interested in your complete health. Therefore, at your initial visit you will receive a thorough physical and laboratory examination. You will be scheduled to come early on the morning of the initial exam to have blood drawn in the lab, a urine specimen collected, and if indicated, a chest x-ray and electrocardiogram performed. Plan on spending one to two hours in the office at the time of your appointment. Please bring all prescription drugs you are taking when you come for your appointment. Your physician will carefully review your medical history, and then perform a complete physical examination. Results of your laboratory studies will then be reviewed with you and recommendations will be made by your physician regarding further testing.

Insurance Waiver Forms

Some routine diagnostic and most all screening test are not covered by insurance. Therefore, you can expect that a portion of your visit with us will not be covered by your insurance, and you are financially responsible for the balance. Prior to any laboratory test, x-rays, or electrocardiograms (EKGs) being performed, you will be asked to sign a waiver that will list any test your physician feels are necessary in his evaluation of your health situation and for which your health insurance may not pay. Non-coverage by your carrier does not mean you do not need the test, or that the test is not medically necessary in your physician’s opinion.

Insurance

We accept assignment of payment from most major insurance carriers, which means your insurance company will mail payment directly to our office with a remittance notice to you as their insured. Please verify with our insurance department that your health coverage is an accepted plan. If at any time your insurance carrier changes, please update your information with our insurance department with a copy of the front and back of all applicable cards. Picture identification is necessary for all information changes. See the listing of accepted insurance plans here.

While our staff attempts to stay educated on most insurance carrier’s basic requirements, we ask for your cooperation in understanding your individual insurance plan. Our office policy is that your co-payment is paid at the time of service and we request that you know whether you have met your deductible and your current co-payment amount. Please have your insurance card(s) with you in case a pre-certification is required for treatment. Your insurance card(s) will have a toll-free number on the back that you can call to get important coverage information from your carrier.
